My daughter & I have gotten 'tank bangers' (the plastic ball on a bungee band that goes around the tank) as a means of attracting each others attention. Unfortunatly, we can't hear them while we are underwater. We both wear 5mm hoods, which muffle any sounds. We can hear each others air bubbles if we are within 15' of each other, but we can't hear each others 'bangers'. Has anyone else had this problem? Do these things work with alluminum tanks?

i bought one a while back up when doing two dives I ALWAYS forget to move it to the new tank.
I just use my knife to bang on the tank now

I use a small metal c-clip. I keep it attached to my bc. Some dives it never leaves the bc and some dives I am holding and using it a fair amount. It is small enough to not be a burden.

I just tap the hammer end of my knife on its plastic sheath, makes a decent crack that seems to penetrate hoods. On a side note, does anyone else think that tank bangers look like ball gags?

Tank bangers are great in theory but in practice its design makes it impractical. I noticed, that because the banger is strapped to the tank, the strapping doesn't allow the tank banger to reverberate and cause enough noise to be heard properly. At least that is what I noticed, I have yet to see a tank banger make a sufficient enough sound.

I bought these

after a trip with some folks who were using the regular "tank bangers"..i.e. bungie with a plastic ball. I found them annoying, particularly when someone would continue to bang their tank very loudly and for a long time until you looked at what they were pointing to. Plus, with a 5mm hood, you can't hear them.

With the reefnet product if you attach it to a retractor, or something similar you can shake it and it isn't the loud 'CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK' you hear with the tank banger. Seems to be a bit more 'eco friendly.' :-)
