On a night dive at weekend, Taiwan, came across a large very circular (diameter about 1.5 metre + / five foot) ray, darkish grey top, white undersides, swum with it's sides giving a rippling effect (a bit like a sole would) - and without a tail, just claspers (about 200 mm length) protruding from rear.

Swum with it a while, and sod's law did not have my camera with me - but am trying to identify what type of ray it could have been, and whether it was naturally without tail ? The suggested name of 'Mobius', or 'Morpheus' was given to me by a guy who didn't see it - but google as I have l cannot find any pics which I can identify it by, nor pics of rays naturally without tails.

Any ideas ?

There's a Mobula Ray. They have short tails. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobula

I would guess a shark or something else removed it. I've seen 3-4 Stingrays with a similar problem.
