Well my sister needs help driving back to Sydney so I am doing half the driving Fri week and flying back Sunday. So I figured I'd get some diving in Saturday! Anyway, just had some questions.

Booked into do some GNS dives at Magic Point with Scubaroos charter, excited! I have seen two GNS before but in the Melbourne Aquarium and I had to sit still on the bottom and they didn't come very close. My Melbourne buddy is also coming along too, so will be relaxing to be diving with a familiar face. I found this Sydney Dive Academy - Magic Point, The Sharks so I presume that is where I am going. Anyway, I was wondering how likely it is that I will actually see some sharks? If I miss out, I will cope :) but just wondering if they are around a lot at this time of year?

Also, I have some local sites for Melbourne I check out for the weather and temperature, what are the websites for Sydney around Magic Point and how early can you judge if the weather will be good to dive? Usually in Melbourne it is the day before... But yea, I do want to get some diving in so if it is cancelled just wondering if there are spots that are always good to dive no matter the weather. Just as a backup :) Will be based in Bondi Junction but can drive pretty much anywhere around Sydney!

With the temperature I did find a site that says 16C is the current temp but does this apply to where I am diving? The temp can vary between 8-13C in Melbourne at the moment depending on where you are/tides/etc but I have no idea how well Melb + Sydney compare diving-wise. 16C I might just bring my wetsuit (especially if my drysuit training does not go well on the weekend :) ).

Soz for all the questions and thanks for any help!

woohooo Sas.. fun for you

Eyves the mad frenchman is pretty honest and will tell you if the gns have moved on - i know last month there were about 15 of them so they should still be around for another few weeks. i once tried to book Evs for a gns dive and he was honest in telling me they werent around so he wasnt diving magic point

i will ask hubby about the weather question but he tells me this weekend they are expecting big swells so fingers crossed you choose the right week!

oh, and here is the code of conduct for diving with the gns, http://www.environment.gov.au/coasts/species/sharks/greynurse/pubs/grey-nurse-code.pdf

IF magic point is blown out - then i suggest camp cove (watsons bay) for a if all else fails dive site or shelley beach (manly)

bare island is a bit of a fav so lets see what next week brings for weather before i give you too much info

cheers!

Ok cool. As I have my regular buddy coming along now, if the boat ride is canceled, I have someone to go do a shore dive with, we'll both pretty much dive anywhere :) So will keep those places in mind.

Hope the weather is good~~ But yea, I might hassle you for a weather report next week closer to the date almitywife :P
