I just picked up a new Dive Rite RG3000 reg today and was wondering if you dive your swivel up or down on your set up.

I am thinking that the swivel will be pointing down on my set up, but not sure if there is any reason it can't be pointing up.

Thanks, Jim B

Down seemed to make more sense to me (I have an Atomic) when setting up my hose routings. Gets it tucked in between the wing and the tank valve body somewhat.

Glad I did it that way as last year my buddy knocked my rig off the back of a truck and the top of the tank valve and the knob took the impact instead of the turret.

Well, it depends. On what your personal trim is and how you configure your gear to stay in trim.

For example, I am a foot heavy kind of guy. I'm long and skinny and the feet just tend to sink. So I wear lightweight fins and move my steel (negative) tanks up as high as I can get them in the BP. For this I'm "turret down" so I don't smack my head into the 1st stage.

I've seen folks that were the opposite of me, that would move the tanks so low that the tank band was at the shoulder of the tank; they'd be "turret up" so they would have a chance at recovering the second stage hose.

Aluminum (floaty) tanks, this is a complete different set of positions in tanks and regs.

Adjusting for good trim is an advanced skill, and as you move into it, you'll know how you need to adjust your equipment for best utility.

All the best, James

Down for me, like fdog mentioned, so that it does not smack the back of my head,
Second reason is that I think it is less likely to snag kelp.
