We left Beneath the Sea Dive show today. My husband got a great deal on the G15 in a Fantasea housing. I started thinking about the same setup for myself. I currently shoot with the S100. I won the $900 FIX housing in a photo contest in 2012. All I had to buy was the camera for $350. I started thinking today that if I sell both the camera and housing now, I will probably be able to make some $. If I wait for a few more models to come out, the housing will be less desirable and worth much less. Thoughts? Pros/Cons switching to the G15?

Thanks!

You won't be able to take ambient light wide angle shots with the G series as currently the only wide angle options (that require a sturdy M67 mount) are the Inon zoom lens. Those lenses blur the image at anything lower than f/8
What is that you are not happy with the S100? The G15 has the same DIGIC V processor there is no real improvement in the image quality if you want something slightly better you need to go G16/S120

I don't shoot much wide angle....I do have the Inon Wide Angle lens, but don't use it often. When I do use it with the Fix housing, I need to zoom in a bit b/c of the vignetting. I have 2 stacked Inon 165 AD mount lenses. I usually have my head buried in a coral head looking for things the size of a grain of rice...

I wasn't sure if the image quality would be any better on the G15. Just thought I'd poke around. Again, I didn't pay for the Fix $900 housing. I was just thinking about resale value of that housing now vs 3 years from now when I will want a new setup.

As Interceptor quite rightly points out, the improvement in image quality from S100 to G15 will be marginal at best.
Are you using a strobe? Unless you are using a strobe and shooting in manual mode, you are probably no where near maxing out the capabilities of the S100. Much better to max out what your camera can do before moving on to a new system.

(if you want to see what the S100 can do, check out my pics by following the link in my signature).

Hi Rob

Yes I am using a single strobe and always shooting in manual mode. Don't get me wrong, I got awesome results on a recent 3 week Yap/Palau trip with the S100. I won a photo contest at the dive shop while in Palau. I was just poking around to see if there was any reason to switch to a G15. (Price is awesome since the G16 was released.) I just thought I'd poke around now while the Fix housing for the S100 is still worth some bucks. Going to just stick with what I've got... Time to start sorting through a few thousand photos from the last trip.

BTW Great shots!
