I wonder if any of you out there have links to any exceptional video examples or websites on how to do the various types of finning required in DIR courses?

I'll be tapping on the feedback and expertise of whoever I buddy with on future dives, but in the interim I wouldn't mind working on some stuff in the pool on my own, fin-wise.

All suggestions, pointers, things that helped you learn, would be welcome as well. Thanks!

John,

Thanks for the link! I didn't know this was out there. I found a related DVD, Essentials of Recreational Diving, on Amazon. Sounds perfect for my needs. Just one (big) concern - the description for that one reads, in part:

Amazon.com:
First, a complete and uninterrupted video shows the skill being performed. Next, the exact same video is replayed, with the addition of key pauses and subtitled instructions highlighting the essential elements of each skill.

Do you (or anyone) happen to know if the full DVD is subtitled in English? I am deaf, and so buying a DVD published independently is often a risky affair and hard for me to justify. I dislike buying something that I won't get the full benefit of.

Otherwise, it's the stuff available on the web that I turn to, since I can't complain about what's available for free, right? ;-)

I have the Essentials DVD, a friend has the Intro DVD which came out later and includes the Essentials stuff in addition to the Intro stuff. The Intro has a good narrative with some text but not what you'd call subtitles that I remember. I'll check to be sure and report back in this thread.

I think having someone get in the water and work with you really helps. I was taught in the beginning to do the kicks laying on a coffee table with my fins on, just getting the feel and it helped alot underwater. Good luck!
