I'm sure this has been asked a million times...so I'll make it a million and one...
What are the cutoff times for points in the 400 yd swim for Divemaster? I just finished my Rescue class and was given the "you should join the next DM class" speech by my instructor. My gym has a pool so I thought I'd see what I can do (not having been swimming in months, other than while diving). I did 400 yd in about 10 minutes 30 seconds. Would that have been enough to pass?
Just curious....

Should I assume you're in PADI? (In NAUI, the next step would be the excellent Master Scuba Diver *course*, which, in the NAUI system, is designed to give you all the science and academics of the professional levels while still being a recreational-class course.)

(My LDS requires at least 50 dives to do the NAUI Master Scuba Diver course, and at *least* 100 dives before starting DM, but I've heard of PADI shops using PADI DM as a stand-in for NAUI Master Scuba Diver, since there is no integrated course in the PADI pantheon.)

Sorry, should have specified. Yes, PADI.

Don't have my manual in front of me but 10:30 mins, would clasify as 3 points. The swim is part of the stamina evaluation (or watermanship skills) and you must complete all 4 skills (treading, inert diver tow, and snorkle are the others) and score at least 12 points. so 10:30 minutes would be a pass although as long as you do well in the other 3 areas, just completing the swim could be considered a pass

Thank you. :) I was most worried about the 400 yd swim, so I think I should be okay. The rest doesn't seem any tougher....(famous last words?)

Oops - I was looking at the metric version - 11 minutes to complete 400 m will get you 3 points.

As long as I'm here...

Does anybody happen to have the equivalent data for NAUI DM? (Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask, since SB is closer than my LDS... at least on a Wednesday. :D)

Now Colliam, what do you know about the 400 yd swim times?.....old DMC swim buddy :)

At my LDS the NAUI Dive Master 400 swim must be completed in 10 minutes or less. Any less than that and the course director's response is try again until you get it to 10 minutes or less.
