Recently while practicing freedive swim strokes at the pool, I started to think about what fish I want to swim like. I haven’t decided yet, so I thought I’d ask you. What fish would you like to swim like and why? (Pictures/videos are welcome!)

This could be real entertaining!

I work with a wide variety of fish and if I couold choose any swim style to imitate it would be a butterfly ray. They are magnificent gliders. They have two differnet swim patterns depending on where they are in the water column. Near the substrate, they use tiny undulations of their fins. When they are higher in the water column, they will use larger oscillations and flaps. In both cases, they are the masters of gliding. Our butterfly ray could cover the entire large exhibit with one or two fin flaps and then a beautiful glide.

YMMV
