Can anyone recommend any spots on either Suva or Port Denarau that has great diving? I will be visiting each with a cruise in 3 weeks time and really wanted to do the Beqa shark dive but think it will be too far and not enough time since I will only be in each spot for 1 day. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

If I were you I would email Greg Buxton at Suva Scuba (greg@suvascuba.com). He may respond to you here as he does frequent scubaboard but I would email him to make sure he sees your questions. Greg is one of the good guys and can tell you exactly what is what.

Hi
Thought I would reply here, but I did get your e-mail.
We are based in Suva, Suva Scuba, and offer local dives mostly to he resident ex-pat and local dive community. Its lovely when cruise ship divers come to visit and we are happy to take you out. The dives around Suva are on reef walls where we see white tip sharks, turtles and a fair amount of life. Not the best reefs in Fiji for sure, but good fun for a day out.
Big fish? Not so much, but occasionally we see Rays, cuttle fish are common and lots of smaller reef fish.
If your ship docks at 7am, it mak the docking time be possible to get down to do the Shark feeding dive with Aquatrek. Please check the docking time wrt Fiji time not ships time, which have been known to be different. Fiji is now GMT+12 as daylight saving ended 2 days ago.
The dive cost is FJ$180 for 2 tanks inc transfer to and from the dock, tax, gear hire and light refreshments.
We accept any major currency but at present we can't take cards.
Let me know at least a week before arrival if you wish to book.

Now for Denerau, I suggest you contact Karen Koens at Subsurface who can advise.

Have a great trip
Cheers
Greg

p.s. Thanks for the referral mike. I'll get back to you this week regarding other matters.

okay, thanks for the tip on the time. i will have to double check about that as the itinerary says 8:00 am dock time at suva. in any case, i did contact aqua-trek but unfortunately its 1.5 hours away from the port and won't allow me enough time to get there before they leave. so that is scatched off the list. but you say white tip sharks in suva? thats some nice size for me :) unless they only come around in the winter. are there any specific sites you recommend doing around 2nd week of february? 2 dives is enough for the day, but we would need cruise pickup/dropoff if possible (and what time will we be back to the cruise?)

thanks!

Hi
Sharks are not really that seasonal here and we have seen a few in the last couple of trips. No guarantees though.
I'll e-mail you with details re pick up etc
You would be back at the boat easily by 1.30pm
Cheers
Greg
