Where can I find a Suunto USB cable for the Suunto Cobra?

I just switched to a Mac computer. I have found Mac software compatible with Suunto Cobra, but now I need a USB cable as the Mac does not have a serial connection. I have searched the internet and the only locations I have found are in Great Britain. I am looking for something in the US.

Thanks

If you feel adventurous you could DIY. Check out Roli's well known guide here. I did not build the USB interface Roli's got on there because I upgraded from my Suunto to a Aladin Tec with an IR port but I did build the serial interface with the schematic off this site and it worked great for my Mosquito. Check out the SB thread here.

The USB cable can be purchased at Leisure Pro.

Or a cheap USB > Serial adaptor would work

(i assume the hardware is the same for crapple as pc there)

I have had a succesful result with a clone cable bought on eBay.
The same seller ummgamar still has them available. Shipping took less than a week.
USB PC Interface for SUUNTO Vytec Cobra Vyper Mosquito - eBay (item 140197608894 end time Jan-13-08 12:05:11 PST)
Same functionality as the Suunto-brand USB cable but about half the price.

Now the caveats: I'm an end user, I have only one instance of everything and
I don't know anything about the internals, use with other hardware, etc.
It worked for me with my configuration, which is:
- Powerbook G4
- OSX 10.5.1 Leopard
- Divelog v1.3 (latest) DiveLog
- Suunto Cobra
- OSX drivers downloaded from the FTDI site per the Divelog site info.
My understanding is that FTDI makes the USB/Serial converter chip which
is imbedded in both this clone cable and the Suunto-brand cable, as well
as dozens or hundreds of other similar products. They supply drivers for
various OSs on their website.

I heard some adaptors didn't work well since the port is made to receive usb data... but i'm really a computer illiterate

I'd heard that too but so far round here i've tried 3 different chipset adaptors and many different computers and not had one fail.

USB and serial data really are interchangeable at a low level. In fact, all the Suunto USB interface consists of is the old serial interface and a standard USB > RS232 converter chip.
