Hi, I recently bought a Suunto SME-ML on ebay. Now before I can use it I have to find a way to actually wear it. I thought it would come with a wristband, but it didn't. Somewhere I read that this device comes in two versions - either with a wristband, or for a console mount.

Since I don't own a console (I always rent my scuba gear, except for mask&snorkel), I don't really see how I can use this thing now. I don't want to carry it around in my hand all the time, and also putting it into some jacket pocket is kind of pointless.

Does anyone have a smart idea how I can fix this thing on my wrist? Any ideas on how to fix a generic wristband to it?

Thanks in advance for any advice,
Matt

Not sure which Suunto it is but from the sounds of it I am guess that it is a puck. Which in that case contact Suunto and see if they can give you the appropriate mount item number. Perhaps one of the current computer mounts will work.

Otherwise if it is a console just have the shop attach it to the reg you are renting.

I used to have a SME-ML, I think it is the same diameter as more recent Suuntos like the gekko or vyper but not sure, and I suspect it is thicker. If it is the same you could just get one of the bungie mounts from Deep Sea Supply.

My SME-ML had a hose mount which is another option if you can find one, very easy to stick on rental gear (though probably easy to forget on rental gear too.) If I get a chance I can see if I still have those mounts around.

The SME-ML has a square base and round bezel (I owned one). I also owned a Vytec DS, it is just a round puck. I don't think the two units would be interchangeable in the same boot. I also don't think the diameters are the same.

With the SME-ML being so old, I'd say a custom configuration (you design it, you build it) might be the only way to go. I owned the console configuration which I liked. Every now and then, you will see the console boot go up for auction on eBay.

If it were me, I'd create a stretchy rubber boot (bicycle tire tube) with a hole stretched to hold the round bezel then use some kind of 1" strap material to make a wristband that would go through the tire tube. I'd make sure it was trapped inside the tube somehow (sewn?) but leave a hole where it needs to measure the depth. Make sense?
