Suunto Download Cable

I just purchased a Suunto download cable for my Vytec..when I got home and opened the box, I noticed it's for a com port and not a usb port....my laptop doesnt have a com port..I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with using a com to usb adapter for this..I would just return it and order the usb cable, but I was hoping to have this up and running for my trip to Mexico next week..

I use a com to usb adapter that I purchased from Radio Shack. It came with a cd that had the needed drivers and mine works just fine for my Cobra, Vyper and Gekko.
