I see that there are kits with a tool to replace the original Suunto D9, but the D9tx is different. It opens up with little star head screws on the back. Has anybody tried replacing the battery on their own D9tx rather than sending it in to the service center? It would require a very small torx stile star bit.

Yes, I replaced the battery myself. I bought a small screwdiver for 10$ and it came with like 40 different small bits and one of them fit perfectly.

Used the same o-ring that was still perfect, and just cleaned it.

I put a new battery from the local electronic shop, screw the case back on and that's it. Nothing to it really. Dove with it afterwards and it didn't flood, so it must be ok :D.

I since sold the computer and got a Petrel 2, much happier with it.
