Anyone have a D9 and check the temp when they're not in the water? I did and it showed 80 something degrees. I was in a cold room. Is it only accurate when on a dive?

It's reading your wrist temp. The sensor is not direct water/air contact, it's in the case and reads the case temp.

That's lame. I was showing off my watch at work and when I showed the temp I looked like a fool.

Perhaps before they ever saw the temperature.

I think any of the temp readings on computers read very slowly. I remember a guy who did a short fresh water ice dive on a very cold day trying to tell people he was diving in 28 deg. water :)

Sounds more like 28 Fahrenheit, -2 deg cel. Maybe his computer froze up as he entered the water.

I think in the manual it warns you that:
  • above water, it will give an artificial reading because of body heat, and
  • in the water, it takes about 3-4 minutes to adjust to ambient temp
