We´re looking for a place for a dive vacation, about 1 week, for one diver and one non-diver (me). The diver is a novice diver, 18 years old.

Since we live in Honduras, we do the Bay Islands during our winter vacation period from school. Every three months we need to leave the county to renew our visas so we planned on using the July exit time for a dive vacation somewhere in Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean or possibly South America. We´re also open to suggestions in the US gulf coast area.

So...what are your favorite places? I´m looking for places that are suitable for divers and non-divers alike and are not over jammed up with cruise ship zombies. Our last experience was in an area with a lot of cruise ship idiots being rude to the locals, being rude to the non-cruisers, and learing to kayak or snorkel. That was not a pleasant experience (especially the kayak paddle the kid took to the head while she was snorkleling one afternoon).

Ok, try Bonaire...there is a lot to do for a non diver and your diver can be paired up with a buddy on a dive boat, no problem. There IS a lot to do for the non-diver. Snorkel, shopping, kayaking, mountain biking, guided tours of the island on air conditioned van, the Market in Rincon on Saturday, Museums, art galleries, donkey sanctuary, reading, relaxing...so much more!

Whelp....I checked out Bonaire.....Golden Reef Inn for starters. Now my problem is getting there from Honduras affordably, which at this point in time is a no go. it´s over a thousand dollars for each one of to travel there and back. That negates any good deals offered by hotels and diveshops since we can go home and dive in the northwest US for less.

Thanks though for the information...it may a sometime in the future deal when we can put enough funds together for the airfare! But it won´t be happening this summer.
