FYI...
Part of the information I impart to my first aid students concerns possible ( though rare ) cardiac arrest in young people. The etiology of the phenomena is well documented. You can learn more about this tragic phenomena at:
Clues To Cause Of Sudden Cardiac Death In Teens Provided By JAMA Study
Parents should always be on the lookout for abnormalties in their children's health. If your child complains of feeling faint or has fainted, feels dizzy or light-headed, it would be prudent to see your physician.
Several years ago, my then 12 yr. old son complained of dizziness after a flat-out sprint down the ice-rink. In short order he was off to the Doctor. He had a resting ekg, stress ekg & echocardiogram ( I also had them check for a PFO in my young diver! ). All proved normal, & he has not complained of another episode. As he grows, I continue to talk to him about this, as I feel vigilence to be warranted.
I encourage all board members to educate themselves in this matter, & to discuss it with family & friends. I welcome the medical mods. on this board to elucidate further on this subject for our collective benefit.
Regards,
DSD
