About 3 years ago, we made the decision to teach the majority of our courses using Backplate and wing systems. Since this is what we use when not diving sidemount. This year we even sold off all of our jacket style BCDs and replaced them all with Subgravity Paragon Backplates and wings.

Over the past few classes we have noticed a huge improvement in our student's abilities to become neutrally buoyant and horizontal within 5 minutes or so of practice in the pool. Lots of this has to do with the individual student of course but there is something to say for using a plate and wing vs a jacket style BCDs.

Before we went with the Subgravity paragon system which has the option for adjustable harnesses we were spending 10-15 minutes per student per session sizing them properly for a plate. Which as many busy instructors know that takes up lots of time that you may not always have. Using the Adjustable harness has turned the sizing of the gear into a 2 minutes or less non-issue.

I have literally taken the same BCD and placed it on a 15 year old 115 lbs kid and within 2 hours used the same exact BCD on a 330 lb guy with minimal effort. The Crotch strap was the only thing that needed to really be adjusted.

Speaking for the Subgravity gear, it's fantastic stuff. Very robust and it has a few nice touches that make the wings especially very cool.
