I am thinking of getting a PT-023 for my 8080

An option is the FL-36 flash, in a housing with TTL connector and a hot shoe connector.

Is this the only strobe that I can use?

What other options are they with the PT-023 and TTL?

Thanks

I would suggest buying a replacement bulkhead from Matthias - www.heinrichsweikamp.net . There are a whole range of strobes that you can use . The Oly flashes were intended to be used on land , which IMHO is were they should stay . I have a housed Oly flash and abandonded using it after a few dives . They are OK for macro stuff and close up , but there their usefulness ends .

AndyT: As you seem to have the Matthias bulkhead already could you tell me about the installing procedure. Do you need to remove the original connector from your housing? If so how easy it was and do you need any special equipment? What about the installing instructions you received as you bought the bulkhead? I've been thinking about getting one for some time but don't want to risk my beloved 8080 :)

I have the 8080 with the PT-023 housing. If you have not purchased the housing yet, I would say don't. Go take a look at the ikellite housing. It may be a little more expensive but it would be worth it. I am trying to sell mine now so I can buy the ikellite.

too many problems to list for the PT-023

thanks

They are that bad. Pity I have just found one at a very good price, well maybe thats the reason.
Over here the Ikelite housing is very expensive.
Well I had better keep on saving my pennies

The bulkhead is really easy to install . You will need a small spanner to take off the nut holding the existing bulkhead in place in order to remove it .Installing the new one is as easy as inserting it into the hole left by the Oly bulkhead and tightening the nuts supplied .The supplied instructions are good , you can download them from Matthias' s website .

I have installed two with no hitches .

Just bear in mind that AFAIK you can only use Ikelite strobes with their housings .Check out the strobe pricing vs other makes .

I think I might still go with the PT-023.
The Ikelite is a lot more that twice the money.
Getting the replacement bulkhead means that I get a good choice of strobes.
Oh woe is me, to many options
