In the next few days I will be getting the 10Bar housing for the Lumix LX3. I'm a little confused by the options for connecting strobes. It has a strobe connection port, says it's Nikonos 5 pin bulkhead standard (Olympus protocol) and it is Fiber optic sync capable. I'm looking at Ikelite strobes, hopefully the DS161. I was told Sea&Sea work well but I need something that can go a little deeper. What is the most reliable/easy way to hook a strobe up to this setup? I've been reading but all I'm getting is confused.

Here is the housing

Hi. I am also looking at the LX3 10Bar housing, am also confused by the type of strobe that can be linked. I am looking at electrically sync strobe. Care to share your findings? Thanks.

im looking at this housing as well. did either of you ever figure this out?

I ended up getting an INON Z240 with a fiber optic sync cable. I got the 24 cm, I wish I would have gotten the longer one but it still works. I'm using it with 6 and 8" arms.

The whole setup is working great. I've been very happy with the performance so far. The housing is very well-built and I find it pretty easy to use underwater even with 5mm gloves. I added a FIX UWL-04 fisheye lense for wreck photography and have been getting good results. So far the whole setup is capable of doing some good work, now I have to learn how to take good pics.

The Ikelite DS-160/161/200 are excellent strobes but i think that they make most sense using them in TTL mode.
To use them with a Nikonos type bulkhead you will have NO TTL and the correct cable is #4104.31/32 found here:
Ikelite Sync Cords
You may buy the manual controller to fine tune the DS series strobe output:
Manual Strobe Controller

I would suggest to use a optical triggered slave strobe as flounderer uses.
You don't have to hassle around with cables, converters and the Inon D-2000 / Z-240 are very good strobes working in manual, auto and s-ttl.

on the one website i am looking at the 10bar housing has a choice of nikonos 5 pin or subtronic s6 bulkhead which one do i need?

also if one is filming video do you need an additional light that stays on while filming.

To use the Ikelite SD-Strobes you need the Nikonos 5-Pin bulkhead.
The Ikelite DS-161 has a strong 15 Watt LED focus and "videolight built-in" so this
strobe may be perfect for you. Look here: IKELITE Substrobe DS160 digital
