Strobe difusers and when to use them

Ok, so the most obvious thing is that you want to reduce the light output. But why, when and what other advantages might difusers give? Assume no knowledge on this one for me cause, well, that would be correct

Hello,

The purpose of a difusser is not really to hinder the amount of light but soften and spread the light. On land you use various devices like umbrella's, light boxes and the like to reduce the hard shadows, which will kill the best of the shots.

One use, which I dispute but that's another story, is the diffuser will allow you to use a wider angle lens.

Is supposed to give you a wider beam (for a wide lens ), will reduce your f stop by one and also give a softer look if thats what you want
