Yesterday afternoon, my (youngest) brother went into the ICU down at children's hospital in cincinnati...again....
In Aug. of 2001, he was admitted to the same hospital for spontaneous bleeding in his brain, after 6 months, a number of other illnesses he contracted while there, a frontal lobe biopsy, and a miracle, he was allowed to come home in Jan of '02 (he was moved from the ICU to therapy in mid December)
The cause of his initial brain injury was never known. Yesterday he had a seizure and was admitted again. Basically because of the amount of damage to his brain, the common cold puts his life at risk. He is doing better now, and has moved out of the ICU.
The kicker to the story is this...when he first went into the hospital, my aunt and uncle (who live across the street) came over b/c my brother wasn't responding to my mom...they are former paramedics and called the squad, which saved his life. This time the squad was at the school (where he had his seizure) doing a routine show-the-ambulance gear to the students...I only hope this kind of trend continues.
