Just recieved official notification:

American Eagle flight 5054 SJU to BON is cancelled for 17 August (tonight) and Eagle flight 5055, with a return BON to SJU is also cancelled for 18 August.

Will keep all updated as I can. I spoke with my Air Jamaica rep today, and as of now everything is a go from Montego Bay to Bonaire tomorrow, but the likelihood is that will be cancelled. NOTE: THE AIRPORT AT JAMAICA WILL BE CLOSED ON SUNDAY. NO FLIGHTS WILL BE GOING IN OR OUT OF MONTEGO BAY.

Will keep all updated as I can.

Liz you are a goddess for keeping track. Hope it just blows over my fav islands

news tonight was showing NWS forecast for Dean to be a Cat 5 Hurricane and hitting Jamaica by Sunday :( Hope everyone down there is able to take shelter and safely ride this bad boy out.

Hi All! Air Jamaica did depart for Bonaire! Should be in within the next 20 minutes or so. As of right now the Continental from Newark and American are scheduled for on time departures. Looking good for now, but will check later tonight.

Morning all!

Ok, can you believe the American Flight made it last night! It arrived about an hour late, during probably the WORST lighting and thunderstorms I have ever experienced on Bonaire! We got a tail end of Dean last night, heavy rains, moderate winds and INCREDIBLE thunder & lighting! Electricity was off for almost 6 hours here!

Anyway good news! Continental's flight from Newark made it fine, a couple of minutes late, but an hour late leaving. Looks like things are back to normal!

A couple of things. REMINDER....JAMAICA IS CLOSED TODAY, NO FLIGHTS IN OR OUT. Also I heard this morning that they are letting people fly in to Cancun, but the hotels are not letting them check in, so people are leaving within 24 hours of arriving.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO CANCUN OR COZ IN THE NEXT 24-72 HOURS CALL YOUR HOTEL BEFORE YOU LEAVE!!!! YOUR FLIGHT MIGHT TAKE OFF, BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE TO TURN AROUND AND AND GO BACK TO WHENCE YOU CAME!

Hope this helps.

First of all, I hope all in Dean's path come out OK. And, I am glad to know that Bonaire felt little of it's power. I am heading to Bonaire in November and am curious to know how this "worst storm" impacted the diving. One of the huge plus sides to Bonaire for me was the fact that it was "off the normal hurricane path" and would therefore have reefs in good conditions (as everything I read says). Anyways, just curious how the diving is after such a storm.

Prayers to everyone in Dean's path.

I was at GRI during the lightning storm and winds - quite an impression for someone that comes from Sweden!

That day was undivable, at least in our opinion. The water was quite rough, and from the surface, it looked like vis was awful. We skipped diving that day and simply took a trip to Slagbaai. That night the thunderstorm hit. The next day, the wind was still present, however, the ocean had calmed down- and diving was fine (though vis was a tad lower). The reef was in the same condition as it had been 2 days before.

Hope that helps.
