Just like to find out where you guys store your gear. I just got a full set and thought of storing it in an plastic box, prob quite air tight. Not sure if it's better to let it breath?

Any suggestions?

Here's my homemade scuba rack. Pretty much a combination of PVC and steel pipe. The arms are PVC - the T fittings that hold the arms are loose enough so that I can swing them back and forthing into any position I want for gear storage. The whole thing is about 7 1/2 or 8 feet tall.

I'd show pictures of the legs of it, but I just rebuilt my workstation and don't have any graphics editing software on hand to shrink the photo sizes.

I store our gear in our basement. It's cool and the humidity is at a good level. I have a roll-around steel rack that I hang it on. My wife took some old sheets and made some Rube Goldberg type enclosed garment bags that slide up from the bottom of the gear and tie at the top of the hangar with draw cords.

After everything is dry (easy to do in So. CA), I hang the wetsuits in a closet in the house so the mice can't get them. Pretty much everything else goes into sealed plastic tubs in the garage, which are stored on two rolling steel racks. The racks are great, even hold all the tanks we have.

I built a drying rack out of pvc piping...pvc piping at Home Depot cost me $13 for all the fittings etc. I have the rack set up in the basement...I used a plastic tub for drying...letting water drip into the tub. I can even disassemble the rack and move it out side to shower my equipment down...works great.

Once all the gear is dry...and this might take some time for thicker wet suits etc...I store my gear in a nice rolling plastic tub from the Container Store...they have great items by the way. I recommend buying actual scuba gear hangers...for wet suits, bc and odd items (gloves, boots, etc). One thing, I do not use plastic tubs for carrying my equipment on a dive boat...too much hassle. I do use a smaller tub to carry dive gear in the back of my car for weekend trips etc...to avoid water getting all over my trunk.

Just my O2

I have a big plastic container that I use for storage, transporting it in the back of my truck and I also use it as a rinse tank. Due to my limited living space I store everthing in it and it works fine. I make sure everthing is dry, very easy in this hot weather. For hangers I have 4 plastic hangers that I taped together it works well and was cheaper then a dive hanger(DIY).

I have some hooks set up in the ceiling of my garage to hang my wet suit and bc/gauges, and some small piping to put boots, gloves, hood on.

Once everything is good and dry I pack it all in a hugh Samsonite soft sided piece of luggage that I put in my closet.

Hi all,

I heard years ago that you shouldn't store a wetsuit folded b/c the neoprene crushes at the folds, and looses insulation. I'm not sure a couple of crushed folds would really affect the performance of a wetsuit. What do you all think?

Also, again from years ago, I heard that over time the neoprene would dry out. I've seen lots of wetsuits in pawn shops that were really dried out, but they were also pretty old. Do you think this is a valid concern?

So far I've been either storing mine folded up in something airtight (long term storage) or hanging them in a closet (short term storage).

Do you think it's worth considering a way to hang it airtight for long term storage? I know that you can buy vacuum storage bags that you seal and then hook to a vacuum cleaner to evacuate. My wife's wedding dress is in one now. 'Course, it wouldn't be worth the effort if you were using it regularly, but I have a 7mm john and 7mm jacket set that I'm not sure I'll use very often now that I live in Texas.

I keep my boat in the garage and lay out our gear on the seats.
This lets me store dripping wet gear and keeps it away from our puppy.
This also allows me to take gear directly from the rinse tank and just toss it on the seats or where ever I want.
Might be a redneck solution but it works better than everything else I've tried.

Store it?? If you dive it all the time, you don't have to store it. My gear usually stays in the big Tupperware tub in my Explorer (I leave it open to breath). It goes like this: Dive it, rinse it, back in the truck. Dive it, rinse it, back in the truck.
However, I did destroy the laundry room closet and shower for storage in case I break a leg or something. I also built one of those hanging, drying racks with a built in fan to dry stuff fast. see:http://www.scubaboard.com/t54541.html
