I have just bought a second hand wide angle epoque DCL-20 lens for my tg-3 056 housing but the lens thread is 55mm and housing is 52mm. The lens feels quite heavy really and was wondering if the aluminium step up rings sold on ebay would be ok? also do I fit the lens underwater or in the dry as I would think water would make its way around the thread anyway? Thanks from a beginner.
PS. the lens was a bargain at £29 incl. p&p.

I used step-up rings for macro work with both my old DX1G setup and my even older PT-030, and never had a problem, even removing them underwater if I needed a little wider angle.
Two things to remember is, first, not to leave them on the lens (or the port) after use as you can get metal to metal electrolysis and you may not be able to get them apart. I'd separate them for post dive cleaning and sometimes even put a little o-ring grease on the threads.
Also, the ring moves the lens out a little farther from the front of the port, reducing the width of the angle a wee bit, and possibly putting the barrel into your shot. You may have to zoom forward a bit to get past that, but then, again, you lose a little wide from your angle.

Already got the step up ring stuck on the lens before its even gone in the water! Might just leave it on though as the lens will only be used for this camera and it will stop the step up ring sticking on the camera hopefully
