Hi,
My question is, if you put a Steel STA on an Aluminum bp will it ruin my setup
Do or Dive

I've been doing that for all tropical dive trips in the last five years. No problem.

I would think it would take a very long time for galvanic action to eat the plate away in any significant fashion. If you're worried about it, just put nylon washers between the two dissimilar metals. Problem solved.

Assuming you are using a wing - the STA and backplate would be on alternate sides of the wing (sandwiching it) - so there should be little contact between them.

The only thing touching the Ali Backplate should be the screw, washers and nuts. These wont cause a significant problem, especially for a short trip abroad.
