whats going on guys, ill be here in the middle of may and want to know if any dive shops locally will have some deeper dives, any one running with doubles? how far is cozumel and if anyone is running some more advanced dives around the area

thanks

To get to Coz from PA, you have to backtrack to Playa del Carmen and catch the ferry. Call it 30 minutes to the ferry dock and a 45 minute boat ride to Coz.

Diving around Puerto Aventuras and Akumal, doubles would be a waste of time (unless you are doing it for training/practice). I've been diving in that area for several years and getting even to 90-95ft is not a daily thing. Most of the dives are 80ft or less (mostly less).

There are a few shops in Cozumel that advertise tech diving and others that routinely go to the more advanced sites. You're looking at about 2-2.5hrs door-to-door from PA (depending on traffic and timing with the ferry). It's about $20-25 each way for a taxi and $12 each way for the ferry.

One thing about doing day-trips to Cozumel though is that you'll be hard pressed to get anyone to take you to the most advanced and deepest dives there until they can dive with you for a day or two and assess your skills and comfort level (them with you and you with them). If you just go over for a day, don't expect to go to any northern sites or to places like Maracaibo deep, Punta Sur (Devil's Throat or Punta Sur Sur), Columbia Deep...

yea i just wanted to see if there was deep water diving down there,

If you wanna go deep on doubles and you're staying in Purto Aventuras, go by Diablo Divers and ask for Dennis. He's the techie down there and can set you up for whatever you'd like to do. Tell him Jason from Fantasea said "Hi"!

Not really enough deep sites to bother with that sort of set up. In this area, most people with doubles are doing caves, not ocean. But if you want to find some tek diving, go see Dennis at Aquanauts/Diablo Divers (Diablo is his cenote & cave operation)

If you want some really deep wall dives, go to Cozumel... the wall at Maracaibo Deep starts around 110-120ft and

ok cool thanks alot, do you know anything about wetset dive shop?

If you are staying at Dreams you are a long way from Wet Set Wet Set Water Adventures of Mexico..the best little PADI dive center in the Mexican Caribbean which is in Puerto Moreles. Dreams is not even a 10 minute drive from Tulum. As other posters say even a day trip to Coz is a bit of an effort. Why spend your day in a combi travelling when you can be diving.

There is a great dive shop at Dreams. They are only a 10 minute drive from Grande Cenote or Carwash. Lots of reef dives to about 90ft. If you are only staying a week you'll get more bang diving from Dreams.

If you want to dive Coz, stay on Coz...if you want to dive with Wet Set, visit their site. Book a hotel in Puerto M.

But seriously, if at Dreams dive with Maya DivingMaya Diving in Tulum: Diving and Snorkeling in Tulum Cenotes and Reefs and Dive Courses
