Click on the 'edit' next to "has no status" then type whatever you want it to say. Personally, Insta-Gator HAS status. I may become more pithy over time since this is so easy to change.

I assume "status" is intended to be used similar to the facebook/twitter thing.

By the way, the info to the immediate left (status, byline, badges, avatar) all seems much more crowded than before.
Not a complaint, just an observation.

Social networking has become a world of it's own. They all want to take the lead but can't afford not to cooperate with each other. Users are fickled and will move to another technology at the drop of a hat.
 
When you get time, can someone explain what status is about or for? I see that I have none… it says so just below my user name at the left.

I thought it would be fun. :)

The purpose of it is... FUN
