Dive season will be starting here in Ireland soon - Easter is when it usually takes off and I can't wait. I've logged around 200 dives but only did around 10 last year - I'm not feeling very water ready, and it can be cold and strenous here. Does anyone have particular procedures they follow when they haven't been diving in a while?

I'm planning on having my gear serviced, trying to get some swimming in, look over some Rescue basics and do some drills in a pool if possible. Any other suggestions on ways to be more ready?

This is only February and I'm planning it all . . .withdrawal symptoms are extreme at this stage. This will be my first dive season of owning a full set of gear! :bandsmlz:

Hey Annie,

I think you've got the right idea about playing in the pool before venturing out into open water again. Then you'll want to start with familiar dive sites to build confidence & practice skills before jumping into new territory.

I haven't been in the water much this winter - it's mainly frozen over here and canals really don't pique my interest.

Saying that, I'm taking an ice diving course starting this Sunday & so I'll be in full gear setup in a pool tomorrow night (doubles, drysuit, stage, etc...) so that I'm confident in my skills for the weekend.

shall we bring the crane to get you back out????

You are a looooooser. (I mean this in a friendly way) Are you just jealous miss Starfish365 since you won't be hitting the water while it's this cold?

too cold for me...I'll wait until the ice breaks....April????

Well Miss Starfish,

we were out in the river yesterday where the temp was a mild 34. After 20 mins my hands were frozen to the point of being painful even in my dry gloves so I called the dive and Teezer and his lovely wife played surface support for us. Scuba Syd and I had a great time and his wife also came out to keep us company.

Great times were had by all.....I just wish the water would hurry up and get warm - why do we have snow again????

I guess that's one of the advantages of drysuit diving!! I have been diving since January - okay a week of that was in the red sea! Still My buddy and I have been hauling out the oul thermals and making our way to the local mud pit at the weekend for the last few weeks and it has been great, fingers get a bit cold in my 3ml Neoprene gloves and at depths beyond three metres my lips feel like they might freeze to my reg but hey - it's all part of the fun right :)
