I think they are reasonable. Geoography and local competition effects rates so much its hard to really be sure.

I don't think there should be standard rates. Any instructor, from any agency, not just PADI, should be able to set their own price.

A lot depends on the country in question too - some are far more expensive than others.

Here generally for PADI OW its £300 ($533 USD), AOW £180 ($319), rescue £250 ($444).

Thats roughly what everyone charges here.

On mainland europe you see OW for roughly $300USD and so on - much cheaper.

Hi String,

How come its Costlier in UK. You get all scuba equipments in Uk but we have to import everthing here in India and duty and freight is quite high.

In Thailand It is supposed to be cheapest and the average rates without PADI Material is :
DSD - 102 US
OW - 358 US
AOW - 306 US
Rescue+EFR - 383 US
DM - 715

Wow...
In my area, we must be getting a real bargain.

OW $225 (all amounts dollars U.S.)
AOW $250
Rescue $225

Of course, these are in freshwater, so no boat fees apply. That could account for the differences.

Boat fees make a big difference. So does the fact that it includes course materials and gear rentals. Some shops quote a low price but you end up in the same general range by the time all of the "incidentals" are counted.

My AOW cost me 375 without materials or equipment. I guess that is pretty high after looking at these prices. I'd say it was worth it though, I learned a lot and had a great time so no hard feelings.
