I checked the ToS and I can't find any rule against this kind of post. If there is, I hope a Mod will accept my apologies, move it, and let me know.

Anyway....

Leisure Pro currently has Blue Reef Stainless Steel back plates on sale for $50, with free shipping.

At that price, I couldn't pass up having one that I can dedicate to doubles diving and my current SS plate be dedicated for single tank diving. Worth it to not have to R&R tank straps every time I switch back and forth, and not have to use an STA.

Just FYI.

I have no affiliation with LP or BR. Just a multi-time satisfied customer of LP.

i have one of these plates and would be hesitant to recommend them. functionally, they seem to be ok, but mine is showing some significant discoloration/staining after 60 dives. will have to see if it gets worse to become corrosion issues. not expecting this plate to hold up long term, but at least it was cheap when i got it.

i was about to ask what's the difference between this and a more expensive backplate since they all seem identical to me (a noob). i guess quality of finish has a lot to do with the price difference.

It's 304 stainless. It would be better if it were passivated, like DSS plates, or 316 stainless.

But, I bet even the one runsongas has could be rejuvenated with a wire brushing and/or steel wool, to be just as good as new.

I normally rinse my BP/W after a day of diving and then let it soak in the bathtub for 1+ hours after I get home from a dive trip. @runsongas, have you maintained yours with rinsing/soaking like that and it still has gotten discolored?

ps. Even my DSS SS BP has some discoloration/staining. As long as it's not left to just flat-out rust, I don't see it becoming something that causes the BP to need to be retired - at least, not in my lifetime.

yes, i soak it for half an hour to an hour then rinse it off again the same day after diving. i haven't seen staining issues with the oms backplate i got off SB
