Tedious question i know - i have trawled the internet until I am as confused as can be! I have narrowed the choices down to 2 (have to go somewhere Continental or it's friends fly because of airmiles) for a 1 week vacation 26th Noc - dec 3rd - going with non-diver - will probably just do 4 or 5 days of 2 tank morning dives. Have only dived in Belize and Roatan before. I know Coz is amazing for diving and really just want to know if the diving is much worse in St Martin/St Maarten?? If anyone has been to both i'd love some input! Thx
Hilary

I've been to both and dived both. Diving wise there is no comparison. Cozumel is much better (St. Martin is not in the same league).

Big advantage of St. M. is that there are multiple "personalities" to the island due to the two major cultures there.

Cozumel is pretty much hard core diving so your friend(s) may get bored. If you are set on diving you may get bored in St. M. but not too likely.

Good luck on your decision. Both are excellent vacation spots.

Thanks - that was quick!!! That is kind of what i was thinking - as i will not be doing that much diving on this trip then there should be enough to keep me entertained - have been to Mex before to Playa and down the coast and would like to go to the Caribbean too! any hints on where to stay if i do head to St Martin - low hundreds for pricing (spent alot of time on Tripadvisor too!!) :10:

I highly recommend the French side. We found it generally nicer, better food, more to do. We stayed at our timeshare on the Dutch side (can't remember the name right now) and didn't find the French side for a couple of days. Big mistake.

You might want to check to see if you can even use the OnePass miles then, it is Thanksgiving Day weekend and use of reward miles is pretty hard during that period. I have OnePass as well and have had little to no luck getting reward travel during holiday periods.
Just something to check on before you get to far into the planning process.

Absolutely!! St Martin is one of the places i can actually get to - Coz and Cancun are pretty tricky - Barbados, Antigua, St Thomas are all available but from what i've read the divings not fab. thanks for all the advice so far! Keep it coming!!

The diving on St. Maarten is ok but like it was stated before, not even in the same league of Cozumel.

We have been to SXM 4 or 5 times and love it! So much great food, the people are the greatest and the Hieniken is dirt cheap!!! We always stay on the dutch side and enjoy it but I am sure the french side is fine too.

If you are planning to go, I suggest you go to www.traveltalkonline.com and check out their SXM forum. They are the end all authorities on SXM and you can find out just about anything there.

Press the edit button within that post add delete it. But why do you want to delete it, how is a cute, innocuous, little smiley face going to taunt you?
