Our dive club will be taking a cruise to St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Barbados, and Antigua. Can anyone provide me with their diving experiences in any of these locations. What's location is worth it and what's not....

Thanks
Ken

St Kitts has some good wrecks and overall reasonably pretty diving. St Lucia also has pretty diving (mostly wall type diving) but not so much marine life.

I have never dived Barbados or Antigua - purely off reputation I would assume that may not be as good as the other two destinations, but as I say, I don't know firsthand.

My experience with St. Lucia is included in this link: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/lesser-antilles/343164-saint-lucia-september.html

I would search the Lesser Antilles forum for St. Lucia and look for my and others comments in them related to specific St. Lucia questions. There have not been many St. Lucia trip reports lately.

The other places you mentioned, I have not been to.

I just got back from doing liveaboard in St Kitts. Rhoneman is correct in what he said about St. Kitts & St. Lucia but when we were in St. Kitts last week the viz was marginal at best, most dives were <40'. I did St. Lucia a few years ago and was just OK, Not the best but not the worst. I did Barbados over 10 years ago off a cruise ship and won't do it again. Never been to Antigua.

If you want shore diving in Barbados go do Carlisle Bay. There a number of wrecks closely located together. Some decent reefs for boat diving. Two well known boat wreck dives are the PAMIR which is in about 60fsw and the Stav at about 135fsw. When I did the Stav the current was ripping and the dive wasnt good at all.

Vis in St. Kitts, like anywhere, can vary from day to day, depending on rain received the night before. I dive here daily, and usually it's great diving, with warm water, little to no currents, and dive sites close by. Dive St. Kitts can pick you up at Port Zante, take you to their resort, and return you in plenty of time for shopping, etc. E-mail 'dive@divestkitts.com
or call 869-663-1474 www.divestkitts.com or google Bird Rock Beach Hotel
2 tank dive with transfers, refreshments, etc. $92 USD ... not bad

I dove the Stav wreck on Barbados on two separate trips. The first timer the viz was great and the current was not so bad. On that dive the wreck was in good shape you could even enter in several places. It was full of sliversides. The second time four years ago the roof of the wheel house had caved in and no entries were permitted. On that visit the current was also a lot stronger. Barbados top side is one of the most beautiful islands in the eastern Caribbean. As with almost all islands in the eastern Caribbean the view of things below the water line is not as dramatic as on the western side.

Just got back from another day of great diving! Vis was 60' on first dive and the reef was teeming with life! River Taw was a bit less vis today, but again, loaded with fish, octopus, turtle, rays, 'cudas, etc. Our dives today were unusally long.. a nice 1:20 minutes each. My kind of morning!!
