When we were in St Thomas we dove with Chris Sawyer's dive center. Our dive boat picked up divers somwhere on St. John, but i'm not sure exactly where. It seemed that most of the diving was done around St John also. Can't speek for that dive op but Chris Sawyers was an awesome operation to do business with. If they can pick you up there I would highly recommend them. Hope this helps!

Yes, I have been out diving with them. I dove with them in April of 2006 and they were new then. The owner had been in St. John a long time and is a very experienced diver but had just started the business. At that time this operator was the most client oriented on the island and would basically take you anywhere you wanted to go. My only problem was I was diving by myself, my wife and daughter do not dive, so we needed one or two other paying divers for the boat to go out. We dove Johnson Reef the one day I went out with them. I highly recommend their operation. I have dove with all of the St. John operators multiple times over the years we have been vacationing in St. John. This is the only operator that will take you to some of the more interesting dive sites like French Cap, Flanagan, Eagle Shoals.

I would highly recommend this operation. With that said I would add a disclaimer that you should make sure by email or phone call that they are still in business and will do the kind of diving you are interested in. Over the years a lot of St. John dive operators have come and gone. There are two main operators that can be counted on, Cruz Bay and Low Key, and though the diving is tame I enjoy my time on both.

Be sure to rent a car for a day and drive the island. Lots of nice beaches....take a lunch.

I would recommend Cruz Bay Watersports, but I've not heard anything bad about the operator you mentioned.

I would recommend Cruz Bay Watersports as I've heard great things about them, however, I haven't heard anything bad about the one you mentioned.

If you (or anyone) is interested in diving the local sites that are off the beaten path, so to speak, we love to go to French Cap and Sail Rock and other spots that aren't dove very frequently at all. If you'd like to do one of those trips, let us know and we'll try to find a good weather day and take you!

Hello Rachel,
We will be in St John for 10 days, this is my first trip to the island, do you have a location on St John or would we go to St Thomas to dive with you? There will be four of us diving.

Kenny

We used Low Key 11/06. The staff was great and the shop is right on the beach next to the Beach Bar (dive then drink, never drink then dive). By the way, we are going back in late June early July and wanted to try some shore diving. Shallow is OK with my wife. Anyone know of some good sites?

Thanks

KROBI, we only operate out of St. Thomas which would mean taking the 7am ferry over for morning dives or the 12pm ferry for afternoon. We could probably arrange a pick-up and drop-off at the ferry dock for you. The ferry runs $10 per person round-trip.

Colofuzz, I don't know of any shore dives on St. John but that doesn't mean there aren't any. The only worthy shore dive I know of is at Coki Beach on St. Thomas. I know that's not particularly helpful, but that's the limit of my experience. Most diving is done from boats.

Please feel free to get in touch with any additional questions!

Rachel

You may have already decided who you plan to dive with, but for what it's worth we used Down Under in 2006 and we highly recommend them. We didn't have nearly as much fun with Low Key as we did with Down Under. Also, St. John is wonderful!
