Hello everyone,
Right now I'm searching for places to go for spring break next year. My budget is pretty tight being around $1500 but I'm willing to go a little over (but preferably not) so I'm looking at places in the Caribbean and also La Paz. I love seeing big things and was wondering where you guys would suggest for that as well as my budget? I've been to the Provo and loved the diving there and hear March is whale season but I think that might be out of my price range. My dive shop is planning a trip to Curaçao but I've heard there is little chance of seeing sharks but I haven't really dived enough to really enjoy reefs and hunting for rare fish and corals so that is also an option. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Adam

hmmmmm, That's a tough one!!!
spring break, $1500 from Kansas, see big animals... I think you are limited to Bahamas for sharks but don't know if you can do it for that price, especially spring break when prices will be up there. Cancun is big spring break and maybe good for $$$ but diving isn't best. Cozumel is better but not really a spring break town. Maui or Kona maybe but pushing the $$. South Florida/Ft. Lauderdale would work for $$ and all but its so craaazzzyyy during that time of year, might see big animals and some cool wrecks but reefs are beat up and fish life isn't best I've seen.

Are you planning to do 2 dives per day and party all night or you just happen to want to go during that time of year?
you might want to look at a travel agent website to get some ideas and prices:
www.caradonna.com
www.bayadventures.com

granted, those do not give airfare but they can give you a start.

Probably a Blackbeard's liveaboard would be your best option for lots of diving and a resonable price. You could also get in a Bonaire trip and stay with Liz at Golden Reef Inn for that price.

I'm not really that much of a partier and more than likely one of my parents would go with me and they are NOT partiers at all so I don't really need a place with good nightlife and I'd like to get in at least 2 dives a day. Based on what I've seen Curaçao has some really nice reefs and is mostly shore diving so it sounds like I could do just about as many as my computer will let me. I think I'd probably like diving there it's just that when I dove in the past I never really hunted in nooks and crannies for stuff so if it wasn't in front of my face I would think the reef is no good but I think it would be fun doing that.

If this helps at all, I am flying from Buffalo to Bonaire, unlimited Nitrox (or air) diving, vehicle and almost everything else except for food. All of this (ecluding meals) will be about 1200 USD (I am sharing a room with one other and sharing the cost of the truck with them as well). I think it is a great option for you to explore. Apparently the diving is great and very simple.

www.bonairepros.com can help you out if you look at Boanire.

It looks like a great deal but they seem to have jacked up the airfare prices for spring break. I just looked at going at two different times of the year and it's a lot cheaper to go sometime other than spring break. Since that is the case maybe I can go somewhere next summer for cheaper and/or go someplace more expensive since I'll have more money then but I'll keep searching. My dive store doesn't have all of the information and pricing on Curaçao yet but I think he said it would be around $1800 which is a little more than I want to spend so I'd have to think about that.
