Hello! Would like to personalise my helmet a little bit. I use a vertex vent.

I know there are vinyl wrapping services but they seem expensive here ($100). I know that hydrodipping can be done but it does require special equipment like a primer spray and some kinda top spray.

I'm exploring just buying spray paint instead, and it could be something annoyingly eye-catchy like metallic or fluorescent lol. Has anyone tried this before, scuffing the helmet up, cleaning with alcohol, using the spray paint and then a topcoat? Does it come off?

If you are prepared for touch ups spray it with whatever you like and if you don't like it replace it.

Hydro dipping isn't expensive at all. Check Amazon. The colors and patterns are unlimited. Pay attention to the right side up and other side down when you lay the pattern. I screwed it up three times before I figured it out.

If you do plan to spray paint, I would recommend using a paint designed for vinyl/plastic. Those special paints will actually soften the base material and soak into the surface. This helps greatly to reduce paint removal via scratches etc. I first used it on a vinyl dash, door panels, and such during a color change for a '71 El Camino. It held up great for many years.

How much would you pay a service to hydrodip a helmet?

I really don't know what it would cost in your area. I just did it myself. It's really pretty easy and requires nothing special or any tools. except for a razor blade and a tub to immerse it in.
