I just wanted to share a very bad happening at the rental house Spooky Channel.
It all started so good for us this past July 18TH, we got to the house and unpacked our stuff and we were all tierd from the trip. We went to bed and our dive gear was put out on the rince table for the weeks ahead. Now even though it was a bad mistake on my part but I never ever had trouble leaving gear outside, and was never warned in any way of the dangers on doing this. Since this was a home and it was of the road and such that you really had to be right in the property to see.
But that night someone stole all the dive gear, my gear and my sons gear and gear that my wife snorkels with. This was all done in a six hour period and the very first night that we were there.I was just with out words of the speed and timing that I was in a daze as what to do, but did what I could with the police.
Two nights later we got home and there was no power at the house, so we had to work in the dark to get the door open and get candles going to see. but during this, again a mistake on my part, I forgot the camera in the car.The next morning that to was gone, it was like you are being watched at all times for any slips.
The thing that hurts is you need to be spending your vacation watching and guarding your belongings, the storys that arise after the fact and why I was never told of the magitude of the theft.This problem is primary in the Sandy Bay area, most local people told me of this when we spent a lot of time getting information.
I will say the house, Spooky Channel is a great house, we loved the area and it was all we expected, I just want to give future renters the chance to know as what can happen.And this is not just me and my mistake of leaving things out,the dive resort down the beach got robbed when we were there.Someone got into the safe and took a lot of money, this was when the guard was making his rounds.
I wrote to the home owners and they brushed the whole thing off, saying that I was warned, and in fact was never even a small mention of anything. I thought they should offer people a choice of a guard or have a writen statment of the possible happenings.They said that my insurance will cover what I lost, this was not a plus on my side. Dive gear that I dived with and had it all ready for the trip and was equipment that I was comfortable with and knew.But someone telling you it's not a big deal hurts more then the theft itself, we took days of our trip dealing with police and finding stuff to repair our trip.
