Hi:

This is my first post on Scubaboard, so please overlook any signs of nervousness or clumsiness. I'm not actually sure whether I should be stating a new thread or posting somewhere else, but here we go.

Though mature in years (in my late 60s) I'm relatively new to diving, getting my open water in Cozumel a little over a year ago. I enjoyed it so much that I went back to Cozumel and got my Advanced Open Water in November of 08.

I'm going to Roatan the end of February for a dive week and have been considering some dive shops (Reef Gliders, Native Sons, Coconut Tree, etc.) I'm looking for an outfit that has good equipment, is safety conscious and handles small groups. Now here's the thing: I've had about 32 dives in total, and though I love it and feel quite comfortable underwater, I still tend to use a lot of air. Which is fine, except that I hate to be the first, or among the first to have to surface. So far this has not been a huge problem, but obviously I feel a little uptight about it. I'll be going alone, so I guess I'll have a dive "buddy" assigned on my dives.

Okay, that's pretty much it. If anyone has any words of advice, I'd be most grateful. I hope I haven't been too long-winded.

Cheers from Vancouver,

Ricsut

WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!
I'm a bit of an "AIR PIG " myself...I think you justv gotta get out and dive and eventually you use less air....I'm getting better as I dive more and work on my buoyancy.
