I recently bought some spg spools from dive gear express, but the only ones they seemed to stock were ones that have a transverse disc in the center.

I have several plastic SPG's that were equipped with a spindle that was just straight - no plate/disc in the middle.

Is it safe to use the ones with the plate on plastic gauges? I tested one in the garage and my house did not explode, but I was wondering if this is another mistake I might avoid learning the hard way. If it works in the garage is it safe to dive with?

Thanks!

If the spacer doesn't keep your hose nut from screwing down completely against the gauge, you're probably fine. Just dunk it in the sink pressurized and twist the gauge. No bubbles? You're fine.
