Sperm whales suffer the bends

I just came across this news article detailing new findings that sperm whales suffer from nitrogen-caused bone damage, and theories that whale kills caused by military sonar may be caused by rapid ascents. I figured that it might be interesting to some other people on the board too!

That's facinating, I'd never really considered whales getting bent like this. Once you think about it it seems logical enough though.

I guess we should be having our bones examined too... we're all ticking time bombs. I wouldn't be surprised if my diving insurance goes up as a result of this.
