We are hosting the Ironman for the second year. This is one big major event with a lot of people in the water at once. I dont know when it will be televised this year.
For any of our water events I am always assigned the deepest station on the course. Im one of those very lucky people that can drop to the bottom like a rock. My tubes must be like a garden hose. I had to watch last year because of a severely injured ankle. Not this year, I am going to be there.
We have had numerous events over the years and have never had a serious problem. But there can always be a first.
We utilize our Marine boats and the Fireboats plus our PWCs. I am normally on one of our boats. The course is two laps to make up a 2.4 mile swim. It can get quite interesting. All 9 of us we be at a station in waters over 15 deep. Shallower than that will be considered a surface rescue.
