Hi, I am new to spearfishing and was wondering if anyone had any information on good locations to spear fish. I own a 19' Carolina skiff and was hoping to freedive spearfish. If there are any shipwrecks in Pamlico Sound from Rodanthe to Hatteras or wrecks that are close enough to shore on the oceanside, I am interested. I have seen smaller Sheephead around channel markers in Rodanthe, but would like to find larger fish. If anyone knows of any detailed maps of these wrecks, that information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You for your information.

the wrecks have fish, but they also have sand tigers. could get interesting

Yeah they do. But sandtigers are really just overgrown nurse sharks. If its 1-2 sharks, my spear is flying, 3-6 I'll have a buddy watch my back, more than that its just insane. I popped a grouper on the Schurz a couple weeks ago with 3 hulking males roaming the wreck. I had to nudge one with my gun to get him to turn away, and they followed me up the anchor line till about 30ft, of course then i got to keep my eye on the cudas who were more than a little interested. My advice....Spear in teams, there really is safety in numbers.

The "Tri wrecks" are within shore swim from Nags Head. I know people that have speared on that wreck. The "boiler wreck" is close to shore also.

Google should find you the GPS coordinates of all the wrecks in that area.

While a Carolina Skiff is a nice boat, it's not really a Deep V with a high freeboard on it. Not exactly something that I would take out of Oregon Inlet on the Outer Banks. Especially with an offshore wind and and outgoing tide. Going through the pass, you'll end up with a wave over the bow or stern of that boat easily on a rough day. Just my opinion.

Does anyone know of any wrecks on the sound side from Rodanthe to Hatteras? I understand there aren't many wrecks on the sound, but was wondering if anyone knows of any. I have found some wrecks on the internet on the sound side but some websites say the wrecks are in Rodanthe and others say the same wreck is in Avon, pretty confusing. I am a solo diver and are hesitant to go on the ocean side real deep until I have a dive buddy.

Thank you for your replies and information!
