Hey guys. Sunday I'm going spearfishing with a buddy and another friend wants to scuba afterwards. I know I'm not breathing air under pressure but is this alright?

Is what alright? That you won't use compressed air? or that he's using compressed air? or that you're switching to scuba after freediving?

Sorry for the confusion. Is it ok to switch to scuba after freediving? Providing there is an hour or two between...

Shouldnt be an issue.. Though if you catch something isnt it better to scuba first then have a good fresh meal :-)

Taravana my lad, taravana! Check it out!

and to make things a little easier, this is pretty much the most quoted article:[FONT=Arial,Helvetica]

Cross E.R., Taravana - Diving Syndrome in the Tuamotu diver. In 'Physiology of breath-hold diving and the ama of Japan.' National Academy of Science - National Research Council Publication 1341. 1965; 207-219.

NOTE: This is a large file

Gene,

You made it too easy for them...Let them work for the information...

Actually E.R. wrote an article about Taravana that appeared in Skin Diver Magazine about the same time.. Might be easier for them to understand, how ever difficult to find the copy of the particular issue and if found would be rather expensive...

Hi Sam, After months of posting 'real' literature and resources to this board, I can assure you that most are not reading the stuff that is spoon fed anyway. (and before anyone jumps on me, this is based of the numbers, not just my opinion)

I am just happy to provide easy access to information for the few that do want it. Besides that, I just find the questions interesting. ;)

The workshops and associated articles do tend to be easy to read.

i usually scuba after i free dive, but some days ill scuba then free dive then scuba again or ill free dive, then scuba and free dive before heading in
i never go in the water without a gun in my hand
