Any one know what the rules are about spearfishing in the Kerama Islands? I am likely going there for a research trip to collect tissue samples from reef fish and am having trouble finding information on the web.

Thanks for your help

I assume the legalities are the same as the rest of Japan; that being the only legal way of spearfishing is doing it when freediving. Spearfishing on SCUBA is technically illegal in Japan. I know I've seen some people doing it, but I'm just reporting on the legal side from what I know

Thanks for the info. Ive heard that the Keramas are a special management area and therefor, spearfishing rules may be more strict than the rest of japan. Its amazing how hard it is to find any info about this on the web.
