SM is the next skill set I want to develop in a sequence of advanced training courses I’m pursuing.

Although I’m a fan of traditional course books, I’ve spread out to find reputable, seasoned voices and their products to help me with a broader, more universal education.

Steve Davis of New Zealand hosts the podcast “Speaking Sidemount” and I’m finding the episodes very informative as well as entertaining.

Below is an index of podcasts to date. Note that Episode 51 is an interview with SB’s very own moderator, @RainPilot.

For the conspiracy theorists out there, I have no association with Steve Davis or his financial livelihood other than having purchased his book “Sidemount Fundamentals” (that I also found very useful). I just think he’s providing the global diving community a very professional service, free of the slippery slopes of social media, and find it worth sharing here with others.

A great podcast. He is very interested in rebreathers, which has given me a view into those options in sidemount. Not that I'm getting one anytime soon.

I can empathize...diving ain’t cheap no matter how you slice it.

I think when one finds a reputable instructor with an informed understanding of how to train along with a wide variety of training techniques, course costs don’t sting as bad.

I live in Florida (sometimes) so getting trained in SM is only natural because it extends my dive opportunities to fresh waters (closer than salt water) thus more economical in the long run.

I really enjoy these discussions, but I'm on the fence about paying.
The podcasts are free. If you want to financially support Steve then you can. That comes with monthly video chats and some exclusive content but you can listen to those episodes listed at no cost.

Duh...my bad.

I thought you meant you were on the fence about paying for a SM BCD and a training course.

I can't blame him, but you now only get every other show without the minimum sponsorship. I haven't decided if a 1 hour show is worth $5.
