Mythbusters say don't splash around, it attracts sharks.

Survivorman says don't play dead, swim to boat.

By the way, Mythbusters was much more interested than Surviving Sharks, and this pains me to say as I am a Les Stroud fan. Hope Mike Rowe picks it up tonight.

Personally, I don't like Shark Week
It vilifies sharks more than informs the public.
It brings a few extremely rare shark bites to the forefront and turns them into soap opera TV with all the Drama of a serial killer.

Even I get freaked out and start looking around for the attacker after a week of this crap. And I think sharks Rule! In the end, I am willing to bet it hurts sharks and their reputation more than supports.

But I am only one man it it is only my opinion.

There was a show on last night on Discovery shark Week where they had a maniquin diver with pneumatic controlled legs....

Whent he legs were kicking/splashing, the tiger sharks left him alone.

when the maniquin "played dead", then the sharks started to investigate, them bumping him, then finally biting him.

Well why do you think they do shark week? pretty much for the reasons you stated above. Simply put.... IT SELLS and they are in the business to make money.

I find that sharks aren't interested in me when I'm not carrying dead fish. Go figure.

Until last night I would have disagreed with you. I previously enjoyed shark week because it didn't get all sharks are evil killers on you. Last night, back to back shows that focused on them as bloodthirsty predators who attack people. They said some of the right things about people being in the wrong place and making bad choices etc, but the images greatly overshadowed those words. It is a little disingenuous to run the spots where they talk about sharks needing protection during a show where you are using images of them that lead to people wanting them dead in order to improve ratings.

I believe I will write a quick note to discovery and voice my displeasure.

Agreed, Last night was a blood bath

I have written to Discovery quite a few times and I have yet to get much of a response back. Shark Week needs to become balanced and show how some shark species are becoming much more endangered than the fluffy polar bear. That man has become the top predator above and below water causing more devestation than any natural disaster. There are so many different shows talking about their predatory nature, attacks, etc., and nothing that shows finning, overfishing, or any type of shark conservation groups that try to protect them. A small statement between shark bite stories doesn't count. What is really sad is they have not shown interest in anything Rob Stewart has been trying to promote. Stan Waterman is the founder of the Shark Research Institute and what they have been doing with Whale Shark conservation and study has been amazing, especially when it has been in conjunction with many other countries. You would think movies like Sharkwater would be a great way to end Shark Week. Anymore, I have stopped watching the majority of Shark Week and just tend to watch what the guys on Mythbusters try to debunk stuff. It all saddens me, especially when I go to the aquarium and hear parents tell their children, as a beautiful shark swims by, "Watch out, it's going to eat you!" So far Discovery has helped do nothing but continue to promote sharks as nothing but mindless maneating killers. That is all most of the general public takes away from Shark Week!

Happy protecting my sharks!
