I want to buy a pelican case for my new olympus sp350 and housing but need to know how mig the housing is (with arm). Alternatively, what pelican case would people suggest. I have been suggested one but it looks like it would be a bit small. I want to be able to fit the camera and housing and possibly a spare sp350. Maybe a lens/filter in the future. However, I want it small enough for carry-on and don't want to go ridiculous

IMHO, if you want a hard case you are better off with a Storm Case. The Storm Cases are lighter, with better latches, and padded handles.

These are good people and you can compare cases:

Having said that, I recommend a soft case - a softdrink cooler. The collapsable soft sided coolers don't weigh much, are padded, easily fit in the overheads, cost less, and can be used as a rinse tank in your hotel room. The coolers come in 6-pack size and larger...

I can pack a housing, two Ike DS-125 strobes, tray, arms, chargers, etc. in mine.

jlyle is correct the Storm cases are much lighter and I find they have better latches. I use both for work and if the part Im carrying is only a few thousand dollars it dosnt matter to me but if its a 100 thousand dollars I would put it in the Pelican so I guess it depends if you want to carry the extra weight for a little more airline safety. But in anycase I have never seen anything damaged in either case.

I bought pelicans for my husband and I. They are so heavy and cumbersome that I have ditched them. The handles are incredibly uncomfortable to carry. Instead I took the padded inserts out of them and put them inside one of the rolling carry on suitcases. I bought mine at Walmart for about $30 and love it. We carry it on and so we know that no one is pitching it around. I fit 2 complete sets of camera gear into one roller bag.

the more I look into it the More I think the soft cooler is the way to go...not only are the pelican cases heavy...they are expensive.

And right now I really don't need that much room anyway.

I carry my camera gear on the plane. PERIOD!
I was using a Pelican 1510 but all my gear didn't fit and I had to prioritize. I saw a better case at this years DEMA. I switched to the Seahorse wheeled carry-on. It is bigger all round but still legal. It is deeper and will be better for those with DSLR gear. Yes, fully loaded it will violate the weight restrictions, but if you get it to the gate, they will simply gate check it. That is no problem as no baggage handlers have time to rummage through it.
