The Nighthawk is what I use for tropical diving. I use a black diamond for cold water diving. I have no complaints about the Nighthawk as it's light enough that you don't even notice it's there.

I'm a Zeagle kinda guy. So I have a bias opinion!
But I do love my ranger, everyone who has tried it also likes it. As for the traveling size, I'm diving so I expect to have a lot of stuff with me and have a bigger bag. The important thing is how it dives, I like the fit and the back inflate, very comfortable, wouldn't trade it for anything I've tried yet!

Hope this helps

Both are great BC's. My buddy has a Ranger and I like the extra rings on it. I have a Knighthawk and like the weight of it and both of them are really comfortable. This can be a big deal now that Airlines are starting to enforce the weight limits on baggage. My only complaint is the tank strap on the Knighthawk. It works well even if it is only one strap but since no one will come up with a standard for tank diameter sizes, its a pain in the *** to adjust the first time. Good thing is that usually that is the only time you have to mess with it if you use the same op for all your dives. Great Warranty on the Zeagle.

You can't go really wrong with either choice. Good products.

Had the Brigade been available when I purchased this from Larry, I would have probably gone with it,

Add an Escape or Stiletto air cell to your Ranger = Brigade, or Brigade on steroids, for travel or streamlined usage.

I really like that second tank strap. My wife has another style of BC which also (luckily) has dual straps, and one of them snapped down in Cozumel last year. It could have been a real problem if she had had a single strap rig, and we sure saw an awful lot of them in use. The ranger is admittedly an awful lot of BC for tropical use, but I was always taught that it is better to have and not need than to need and not have. I also like those weight pockets. I got the removable yellow weight pouches that Zeagle makes for this, and those are sure nice for schlepping your weights around. I cannot use a weight belt (the darn things slip right off me no matter how tight I cinch them) and this system works great for me. The wife was so jealous of those weight bags that we had to get a (smaller) pair for her to use in the top-loading dump pouches on her Amersea. Woody

I have dove both and ended up with the Zeagle. Not just because of the BC but all the above mentioned...USA, modular, etc. I liked the Knighthawk but liked the flexability and design of the Zeagle system better. Also if I decide to go to a back plate then I already have the wing.
