Hello divers,

Does anyone have any experience with the SP POV Light on a GoPro? It's a Portable LED Video Light with a maximum of 300 Lumens.
I will go diving in the Philippines soon and I wonder if this Light would be a nice addition for close up shots. This light is mounted directly under the GoPro which means you cannot focus the light on a spot without moving the gopro. Is this recommended or not? Any tips would be welcome! Thanks in advance

Sam

300 lumens is not going to provide much illumination unless you are very close to your subject. If the light source is placed very close to the camera, then you will tend to light up any particles in the water and this will affect the quality of your image - this is know as backscatter.

To combat this effect, photographers will generally try to offset the light source(s) so that the illumination comes from the sides (or above) and this reduces the backscatter effect and also helps to accentuate the texture of the subject. This requires the light be affixed to arms that hold the light outward.

We offer a modualr tray system with arms, "sand spikes" (so you can set the camera down and film ) and also inexpensive and powerful video lights.

Thanks

Dano
