Every now and then I get sent a camera to test out. Most of those tests never see the light of day for different reasons. Recently, I was sent the SOOCOO S70 camera and so far I like it. It's an obvious GoPro Clone nd at 2K 30fps, it doesn't quite have the power of a GoPro, but with a built in monitor and selling for only $128.99, I think it has a place in the market.

The first challenge was putting in the SD card. There's a tray under the battery, and upon ultra close inspection (magnifying glass) I saw the word "lock" with an arrow. It popped up when pushed in the opposite direction, I put the 64 GB Micro SD and slid it to lock. It ships in Chinese, so I couldn't understand the error messages except that it had "SD" in it. Finding the right menu to change the language was a bit hit and miss. I kept at it until I got a hit! It was easy then to find the right spot to format the SD card to speak to the camera and I set the date and a number of preferences. A couple of items worth note. It has options to turn the camera off after a few minutes, to turn the back screen off after a bit, to turn the camera on when it detects motion (I likey) as well as a litany of other preferences.

I'll be taking it on a trip into Ginnie Springs in just a few moments, so I'll try to post some video from it in some of the most challenging environments out there. I'll be bringing along ScubaLamps PV52 light as my main video light, so we'll get to test them out together.

My S70 leaked through the door on a dive to 27 meters. Soocoo did not want to know about it. I would only trust this camera for shallow depths or snorkelling. The statement “Waterproof to 60 meters” is meaningless without warranty backup.

How did it go? I was recently disappointed by a differently branded knockoff gopro in the same price range. Mine produces crappy grainy video in broad daylight on land :(. Can you post some video from the S70?
