Hi I have a Sony Rx100III with Nauticam housing & need some advice.

My recent trip to Raja Ampat I saw the most breathtaking magical coral which blew me away but doesn't look great on video. Accept when close up using my Archon LED light.

I thought the white balance, which automatically sets into dive mode would solve this problem & eliminate the need for a red filter. Would it be better to manually set it?

Or is it lack of light & vis not good enough?

Not sure what red filter to buy as well..think you need to get an adaptor 1st.
All very pricey with the Nauticam.

Any help advice appreciated.

Hi.

I have a RX100IV. There are a few ways to get it to show true to color/life for video. You need to be using very strong video lights and/or be close to the subject so that the light does not fall off. Light falls off way closer than you realize (distance wise). Using manual mode video will usually give you better results than auto. Another option is to manually set the white balance. If you have white fins, you can use that for a custom white balance or you can carry a very small slate clipped off to your BC or on your wrist for this. In a pinch, you could use a patch of sand but it is not ideal.

While you could buy a filter, it isn't necessary and I find that being able to do a custom white balance is better. You can do a custom white balance if you change depths.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Out, good post & will try manually setting on next holiday I reckon.
If you have any of your own videos to check out please feel free to post, so I can get an idea whats possible. :)
